Some people are in desperate need of a reality check. If you consider yourself to be a part of a community/music scene then act like it. A hard work ethic goes a long way, and so does talking shit (both in opposite directions of course).
Music is a special part of so many people’s lives, and you insult so many hardworking people when you hardly have anything positive to say. I like to think that the band I’m apart of (Real Friends) handles haters well by not taking them seriously, whether it be through sarcastic reblogging/retweeting, mocking them, or what have you.
We can brush off most hateful people this way because allowing their negativity to influence how we think about and treat something so near and dear to us can ultimately affect and destroy how we look at our music/the music of others we love and appreciate, which is something that provides comfort when you have nothing left.
When you “claim” to be apart of a scene, you are basically saying that you are apart of a tight knit community. I have noticed and dealt with a lot of people who claim to be associated with our scene that give it such a bad name. It’s these people with their endless shit talking of bands both locally and nationally known that bothers me. You can’t be truly involved if all you do is see the wrong in it. Sure, there are people who expect to be fucking rockstars overnight (I’ve been in bands with them and see them all the time), but there are also very committed and hardworking bands and people trying to contribute the best they can (east coast/west coast/south/midwest/so on and so forth), whether it be through writing music, providing news and updates, taking pictures, booking and promoting shows, etc.
There are so many ways that someone can positively contribute to music, why bother trying to be such a douchebag about it? Basically all I’m trying to say is fuck the haters. We don’t need them in the Chicago scene. We don’t need them on the west coast, or the east coast, or the south, or anywhere for that matter. Cut that shit out, because eventually you’ll get what you deserve. I hope people mock you. I hope people make you look like the asshole you really are. I hope you come to terms with the fact that you are adding negativity to something that helps people sleep at night.
Fuck you. No matter what genre you’re into, support local music if you dig it. Support nationally known music if you dig it. Support music you love. Ignore the rest. If you don’t like a band, who cares. Unless they’re making a completely mockery of what a beautiful thing music is and should be (Ronnie Radke, for instance), fuck it. I’m gonna try to do the same and so should you.
This message brought to you by how I’m sick of poppunkwayo. Good night.
